HYDROPLANE QUARTERLY
1970-1974
|
Hydroplane Quarterly was initially published in 1970 by Tim Chance who not only was the creator and editor of the magazine but an active boat racer as well. Hydroplane Quarterly followed Boat Sport and Speed and Spray as an important magazine devoted to boat racing. The magazine's primary focus was on Alky and Modified race boats and engines. Tim published about 21 issues before the magazine shut down due to of all things a union labor problem. The issues had some great articles profiling prominent racers, prop makers, boat builders along with valuable engine setup information.
Most of the issues posted here came from the author and editor, Tim Chance. I am extremely grateful for Tim's generosity. Another contributor to whom I am equally greatful to is Al Lang, a racer in his own right, who lent several issues to the project. Without Tim and Al's help this part of the webpage would not exist. After my initial posting of these issues, Stu Mills sent me the special July 4, 2003 O.F. Christner Memorial issue. I'm extremely pleased to be able to post this issue along with the other issues. Many thanks to Stu Mills for stepping up and contributing to the site.
After a hiatus, Tim Chance will be fielding an FEH rig. Tim also has plans to re-introduce Hydroplane Quarterly.
Charlie Williams also contributed to this site since I am shamelessly swiping format from a page out of his excellent web page. Classic Outboard Race Engines.
If you find any mistakes please Email me Merc55H@optonline.net and let me know so I can correct my error. If you have any of the issues that are marked missing, you could make a huge contribution to the site by scanning the missing issue. You will have the gratitude of myself and the literally thousands of visitors to the site.
All of these pages are Jpegs, unfortunately they take up a lot of space and will download slowly for those of you who have telephonic modems. If you see any errors please bring them to my attention. If the page you clicked on doesn't download it means that it is missing. Send mail to Merc55H@optonline.net
